Meet Laykas!

11-year-old Laykas was a lively, full of life, energetic boy before he went to the hospital for stomach bloating, a lot of pain throughout, lethargy and problems urinating. After further testing, including bloodwork and scans, the results came back with numerous tumors throughout his whole body. It was at that point, Laykas was diagnosed as Leukemia Stage 5.

He was air flighted to Sanford in Fargo where he went into immediate surgery to drain fluid from his lungs as well as further testing and chemo in the spine. Doctors said he needed to start chemo right away as she gave him 2 days of survival if they didn’t. As you can imagine, this was shocking news for his family to hear.

He is now finishing his last round of chemo. Even with that, the road right ahead is uncertain. His family is just living in the moment as God says don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. They will see what God has in store for their future as it comes.

Laykas still has a 7-millimeter tumor around his liver but it’s showing inactive right now. He is planning on living life to the fullest with hopes of getting his own room, playing his new bass guitar, shooting some guns and praying his hair comes back straight not wavy. His cancer has a risk of coming back in the next 2 years, but they are believing and praying it won’t.

Many prayers are appreciated for this special boy and his family in the coming years.
