Dirk is an incredible 10-year-old boy from Grygla, MN who received the unfortunate diagnosis of Pilocytic Astrocytoma in 2021. Dirk was originally diagnosed in South Africa where his family made their home prior to moving to the US in October of 2022. Dirk began treatment at the Roger Maris Cancer Center in December of 2022. Dirk is such a kind and thoughtful boy who was deeply moved by Landon’s story. He also has a fun and vibrant personality with the best smile. Dirk loves the outdoors, tractors and nerf guns!
Dirk has two older sisters, Amore and Sune who love and adore him. Dirk’s parents, Cornelius and Jana, have had their lives turned upside down and continue to navigate this challenging journey with a tremendous amount of strength, faith, and determination to ensure the best care and outcome for Dirk. Their entire family radiates positivity and joy in the face of adversity and change.
Dirk’s Miracle Moment included a washer and dryer for their new home. We also provided a family fun outing to Kingpinz for Dirk to experience laser tag and create lasting memories. We loaded Dirk up with every type of nerf gun he could want and provided his sisters with a few fun surprises as well. Additionally, we provided the family with gas gift cards to ease the financial burden of consistent travel for treatment.
