Meet, Kyla!
This spunky and sweet teenager was diagnosed with scoliosis during a routine sports physical for softball in September 2023. That diagnosis led to an MRI where her family learned that Kyla had a significant spinal tumor that extended into her left chest wall cavity.
Kyla underwent 3 major surgeries at Mayo in February of 2024 to remove the tumor from her spine and chest, and then to fix the scoliosis. It was at this time they learned that the tumor was cancerous; a ganglioneuroblastoma. A day after receiving the cancer diagnosis, she lost all sensation and movement in both of her legs. After many tests, scans, and unplanned surgeries they are left with no answers as to why this happened and now, Kyla is also diagnosed with T7 paraplegia.
After leaving the Mayo at the end of February, Kyla spent the next 4 months at a spinal cord injury center in Chicago and continues to do therapy 2-3 times a week at Pam Rehab in Fargo and is following up frequently with her oncologist.
Please join us in praying for Kyla and her family as they navigate her medical journey.
